VALUE ADDED COURSES  
BRIDGE TEAM MANAGEMENT

This course provides training to the nautical officers in sound bridge procedure principles and an opportunity to handle ships in various conditions on a simulator.  

 

Those successfully completing this course will get a better understanding and awareness of efficient bridge procedures during watch keeping. They will gain experience in handling ships under various conditions and appreciate the importance of planning a passage or manoeuvre.  

 

COURSE OBJECTIVE        :  

 

At the end of the course, the candidates will be able to  

 

a)          Carry out Bridge Procedures, Passage Planning, Turning circles, Stopping distance, crash stops, rudder cycling, Wind force and effects, currents – effects in deep and shallow waters Hydrodynamic interactions, shallow water effect, squat and bank effects.

 

 

b)         Constant radius turns; effects on ship’s turning circle due to shallow water/ reduced under keel clearance;

 

 

c)          Understand Master pilot relationships, information exchange.

 

 

d)           Execute simulator exercises to experience/demonstrate the above effects and to carry out navigation exercises in designated areas under various navigational/ environmental conditions.  

 

ENTRY STANDARDS :  

 

All Nautical officers, a maximum of four officers per course are accepted.

 

 

 

DURATION OF THE COURSE: Three days
